The Croquet Consortium is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation dedicated to developing and promoting the widespread adoption of open source, Croquet technologies for research, education and industry.
Strength through Community
Our Mission
The non-profit Croquet Consortium, Inc. is a membership organization that provides the institutional and organizational base for the Open Croquet Community. The Consortium coordinates the activities of the Croquet open source development community to ensure the long-term viability of Croquet technologies. Members provide the intellectual, human and financial capital necessary to support both the foundation and the work of the community. They participate in consortium governance; help determine priorities for the community; and work cooperatively in every phase of the Croquet software development and distribution process. Membership in the Consortium is open to academic institutions, non-profits and commercial organizations committed to the Croquet Consortium’s community-source vision of open-source software development and deployment.
- Develop a global community of interest among practitioners and institution, facilitating and encouraging mutual support
- Provide education and research in the applied use of open Croquet technologies
- Federate Croquet-based projects and mobilize distributed resources on their behalf
Our Commitment
- Maintain a clearinghouse of open source software artifacts for use by all
- Support a comprehensive web site as a focal point for knowledge sharing and community-building
- Hold an annual conference, regular board meetings and sponsored activities
- Provide a legal home for handling intellectual property issues
- Serve as a clearinghouse for managing donations, forging partnerships, and coordinating resources
- Foster mutually advantageous software support models that benefit the Consortium's diverse membership
The Vision:
The Croquet Consortium is dedicated to developing and distributing asynchronous and synchronous Croquet-based collaborative simulations, experiential environments and virtual laboratories for industry, research and education. The Consortium is committed to a community-source vision of open software development and distribution.
The Commitment:
The objectives of the Consortium include, but are not limited to, the following: a) To maintain a clearinghouse of Croquet open source software artifacts that is freely available; b) To federate and share Croquet-based project requirements, plans, and technologies; c) To develop and deploy asynchronous and synchronous Croquet-based collaborative simulations, experiential environments and virtual laboratories for industry, research and education; d) To support research, collaboration and community building around the open Croquet framework and associated applications and tools; e) To solicit grants and other funding to permit the development and refinement of the Croquet framework and associated applications and tools; f) To promote economic efficiencies for IT in education and research settings through cooperation, leverage of shared investments and innovation.
